      Abstracts should adhere to the following specifications:

    Use minimal formatting (no capitals, bold, underline, italics, superscripts, paragraph formatting etc) unless required by convention (eg acronyms, species names etc).

    Use no more than 250 words in the body of the text.
    Separate title, authors and body of the text with a single blank line.
    For example:

    Stress hormones and lifestyle in Aboriginal Australians.
    L H Schmitt, E K Rousham (The University of Western Australia), G A
    Harrison (University of Oxford) & R M Spargo (Health Department of
    Western Australia)

    Aboriginal people in the remote Kimberley region have experienced a
    rapid transition in lifestyle during the past ...

The 'traditional' purposes and uses of abstracts, either alone or aggregated within an abstract journal or online directory, have changed very little over the centuries that abstracts have been used. The purposes focus on the ability to assemble, acces s, and evaluate relevant materials more easily and efficiently, using summaries of source items instead of the original items themselves.
