<description>&#60;p&#62;Teeth are an ideal and commonly used source of ancient deoxyribonucleic acid (aDNA) however the amount of DNA in human teeth has yet to be quantified. In addition the behaviour of DNA within the postmortem environment is yet to be described. These form the two main questions that I am currently asking in my PhD. This is of importance because human teeth are scarce and valued resources to multiple fields. My aim is to be able to sample the smallest amount of tooth that will provide the best results, while inflicting the minimum physical damage. Presently I have obtained preliminary results that are indicating how we should sample to obtain the best results and how this ancient DNA is behaving differently to modern DNA.
